Reverse osmosis reject brine can be dilute and saturated with sparingly soluble salts like CaSO4 which can cause scaling during the crystallization process. It is therefore imperative to investigate how the heat exchanger surface material properties can enhance or reduce scaling of ice and salt during the crystallization process. This knowledge will enable the use of a material that will increasing the process efficiency and product yield by reducing the scaling tendencies of ice and salt.
